What Reading Mentors Say

Lead to Read KC Reading Mentors donate one lunch hour a week to provide one-to-one reading support to elementary students.

More than 90 percent of Lead to Read KC Reading Mentors surveyed in 2018 ranked their volunteer experience at least four out of five stars.

Here’s what Reading Mentors are saying about our program:

“I like being a reading mentor because it feeds my soul. I know I am helping every week, reading and listening in a fun way.”

– Virginia Battoglia, Commerce Bank

“We make reading something the students enjoy and look forward to. It can be hard to break away from work when you’re busy, but it’s well worth it, and you come back to work inspired.”

– Laura Berry, Black & Veatch

“Getting to see a kid’s eyes light up while reading a new book is a phenomenal feeling!”

– Josh Linton, Commerce Bank
