Feeding Readers Workshop with Mimi’s 4 Kids | April 25, 5:15-6:45 p.m.

We will be hosting a literacy workshop for parents with Mimi’s 4 Kids. Parents will learn developmental ways to nourish the reading lives of their children with Lead to Read KC. Kids will utilize our toy library and board games while parents are attending the workshop! Lead to Read KC!

May 1, stop by the Nonprofit Village, 31 W. 31st Street to become a Book Collector! Lead to Read KC is looking for businesses, organizations, and individuals interested in collecting new or like-new children’s books for Lead to Read KC on a consistent basis. With sixty-seven Reading is Everywhere locations and requests to support school and community literacy-focused events, we want to ensure we have a steady supply of children’s books for distribution. Spring Festival of Reading with Turn the Page KC | May 11, 2-5 p.m.

Get the whole family excited to enjoy books together at this free afternoon of fun at KC Urban Youth Academy and featuring an interactive performance from Drum Safari, free food and books for all ages while supplies last. For more information, visit Turn the Pages Facebook event.

Brookside Charter School Golf Tournament | June 17, Blue Hills Country Club

Lead to Read KC is a beneficiary of the Brookside Charter School 2024 Golf Tournament. Registration opens at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start at noon. Gather your foursome and sign up your team today to help keep Brookside Charter’s students reading on grade level.

Second Saturday Book Sorting

Looking for a one-time volunteering opportunity you can do with friends or family? We need help processing and labeling book donations. Sign up to join us on any second Saturday morning to clean, label and sort books. Adults and children twelve and older are welcome.

Lead to Read KC provides books to children in our twenty-four partner schools, at community events and through our Reading is Everywhere program. 

Monthly Pop-Up Food Pantry and Resource Fair

On the second Tuesday of each month, Lead to Read KC joins the Kansas City, Missouri Health Department’s Pop-up Food Pantry and Resource Fair. We provide free books and advise families how to support literacy and reading in their home. Anyone is welcome between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. at the KCMO Health Department, located at 2400 Troost Ave, KCMO. Questions? Email [email protected].
